Japanese Sword — Toyama-Ryū (Shiseikan West)
In proud affiliation with Shiseikan West — Zen Nihon Toyama-Ryū Iaido Renmei study group in Lithia/Valrico. Traditional iai, kumitachi and tameshigiri as taught under Hataya Mitsuo Sensei’s Seizankai curriculum.
What You’ll Practice
Iaido (drawing & cutting): posture, hasuji (edge alignment), timing & etiquette.
Kumitachi (paired kata): distancing, initiative, safe control with partner protocols.
Tameshigiri (target cutting): practical cutting on tatami to validate mechanics & line.
Classes are traditional and structured as in Japan; opportunities include seminars & events with senior instructors.

Who We’re With
Shiseikan West is a traditional Japanese Sword study group led by Chris Gramling (Head Instructor) under the guidance of Mike Soriero Sensei (Dojo-chō, Shiseikan Dojo of Clermont). Training follows the Seizankai Toyama-Ryū curriculum as taught by Hataya Mitsuo Sensei in Machida, Japan.
First Night Primer
- Wear comfortable long pants & plain tee; dojo provides safety guidance.
- Etiquette first: bowing in/out, spacing, blade awareness.
- We begin with suburi (swing drills), draws, noto, then paired work.
